Time for a new system and I'm pretty green.

I've decided that it is time that I bought a true stereo system. Currently I am just running speakers from receivers. I want to go to separate components. My neighbor is selling a Yamaha MX-630 power amp with preamp for $500 with what I could estimate at $200-$300 of Monster Cable included. I was curious to know if this is a good buy? He also has two Paradigm speakers that he would be willing to sell but I am not sure how much he would want for them. Any feedback would help. This system would be used to a set of Bose 901's Series 3 that I have grown very tired of and a Pioneer integrated amp/ receiver. Thanks - The Blues In Black
