need advice on reasonable priced subwoofer for large room

I am looking for a reasonabley priced subwoofer in white if possible. We don't watch a lot of TV so I don't want to spend a lot. Our kitchen, living room and dinning area are all one open space so I guess I need one that has some punch. Thank you all for your advice.

At that price point for a large room, I would wait... It is going to be difficult to find anything other than computer "subwoofers" at that price point, and they are not designed for the task you are looking for.

Maybe you could build one in a cheapy box that could still sound nice for that money if you have the skill set and inclination.

My suggestion is to save up a bit first, and then look at the subwoofer kits available, or maybe a decent used subwoofer.

Yeesh....$150? Personally I'd wait and save up another $600 and get a decent sub and do it right, but this one might hold you over while you save up:

What are your room measurements? If you're over about 400 sq.ft., then you should go with either a high capacity 12" sub, or a 15" sub to fill that space. Or you can consider going with two 12" subs.

With smaller rooms, you can rely on the acoustical effect of room boundary gain to reinforce and extend the low end with smaller subwoofers. But, once you go above 400 sq.ft. or so, then the room boundaries don't give you quite as much reinforcement, and you're relying more on the brute force of the subwoofer itself to generate the low bass.

As others have mentioned, $150 won't buy you much. Even used, it won't be easy to find the amount of bass that you will need with a large room.

Amazon has this for around $75-$80 right now. Saw one at P.C. Richards & Son for same price.

I cringe already at the thought of the comments about quality that this will ellicit.

Save your money until you can afford SVS. I had a 12"NHT and a Klipsch 10" both of which I consider to be midbass modules compared to the smallest SVS cylinder.
