I am not familiar with that Polk center channel speaker, but I have owned Wood Technology stands many years ago when I was in college and they were truly horrible quality. They wobbled quite a bit, not supporting the speakers at all and used super cheap wood (the latter understandable for their price). Also they could not be lead-shot or sand filled. Normally I would not make a big deal about that fact, but in the case of Wood technology, the stands weighed so little and swayed so much, that they kept falling over with my speakers getting dropped all of the time... obviously not good. I would avoid these like the plague unless you are putting a *very* lightweight and inexpensive center channel on them.

If your Polk is worth more than a couple hundred bucks, I would recommend calling a company like Tyler Acoustics and have them build a custom stand for you... It may cost $100-$200 bucks, but it will support the center speaker much better, can be tilted upward or downward to angle the tweeter at the listener, and requires no assembly to boot (Wood Technology requires self-assembly) . Try http://www.tyleracoustics.com/stands.html to get a look at a sample finished product.

Noel at Skylan builds the best stands I've seen. I had him custom build me a center stand, but it's nowhere near 30" tall. He can do you one however you want though. You can see mine here:

I'll put in a plug for Sound Anchor. They're probably out of your price range (starting price is $235), but they are about as solid and rugged as any stands I've ever seen. If you have an especially heavy speaker or have specific height and angling in mind, then they might be worth looking into. Their center channel stand can be custom built up to 60" tall (with adjustable height and tilt), and can support up to 300 lbs.

Rather than flat-packed and assembled at home, Sound Anchors stands are prefilled (to acoustically deaden the columns), welded together, and shipped in one-piece. The adjustable stands that I use for my surrounds cost $350, but they each weigh 65 lbs. and can support up to 100 lbs. at any height between 5" and 45". Their three-post and four-post speaker stands can also be custom built to any height and width.

thanks for all the help, but i decided that buying one online probably wasnt my best choice for now (although they do look cool). I ended up getting these at circuit city:

http://www.omnimount.com/product.asp?p=109 it works very well. it came as a pair and i only needed one, so if someone wants to buy the other let me know
