My new listening room
Well, some bigger news from me.
I got a new "Apartment" ;-) No neighbors! --- None at all!
My new listening room is 12m long and 8m wide, for you guys in the USA thats... 39 feet by 26 feet :-)
The room features 22 dedicated 32Ampere Outlets (same ground) as well as 400 Volt power supply.
Before the question drops... no i am not worried about the windows. Already got plans for it all :-)

Nice Florian. But I have to say I love your current living room setup as I've seen on some photos. The Grands are causing a lil' trouble eh?:ihih:
Keep us up to date.

Looks like a nice place Flo,
Your going to have fun getting the Grands up the stairs. Hows the acoustics with all that glass?
Cheers, LDB
-
Thanks guys,
i am not worried about the glass at all, Apogee love liveliness and with diffusors, rugs, curtains etc.. this wont be a problem.
Moving them is easy, a crane and through the window.

Since I'm going to go out on a limb, and assume you're not a midget........ those are some nice tall ceilings too!!!!!! and the open-ness of the room is GREAT!

Would assuming that you use a local piano mover be correct?
-
Na, my neighbors are a cran renting company. We will use a crane to lift the wooden crates of the grand through the windows into the living room.

Nice to have connections in the right places when you need them. I'm sure your going to post pics after you get settled in and have the system up and running?
Best wishes with your new adobe. LDB

Thanks!
Well, i will post some pictures of the crane moving the speakers ^^ Thats gotta make some good audio porn :-)

Germany
Makes me feel nostalgic for my military days. I lived in Germany and England for 11 years. Loved it, especially Germany. I was in Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Kaiserslautern. I met my wife there (Mainz) and looking forward to the day when I and the wife can visit again. The pictures you posted brought back a lot of memories.
-
Congratulations. The place should work well for you and the speakers. I will be anxious to see pictures but I also enjoy how you decorate. Some nice area rugs, drapes and art for the walls.
-
Very nice place, post more pic's when your all moved in! I'd send you a bottle of Champagne if I could.
-
Arbeitsbühnen roughly translates as "working platform", I think it would refer to what Americans call a cherry picker.... some sort of gizmo to elevate a worker.

1.5 is a good ratio and pretty close to the ideal 1.61 "golden" value. The room in my current house is 1.56.
The big Apogees should do well there.

On sunday i will place the DIVA in there, i am really curious to how a planar speaker works in a seriously big room. The Grand wont have a problem, but will see about the DIVA... or my Acoustats.... or those cute litte Stages ^^

Flo, it should be a win-win with the Grands. They certainly have the power and the bass extension to benefit from living in a large space. Image size will likely go from exceptional to spectacular. You may also find that the optimum seating position (along with driver blending) will be found a bit further back than your current arrangement. My guess is your situation is like HP's with the big Nolas - the bass can overwhelm the room.
In my case, I would rather not have such a large space, A loss of room gain at the bottom would mean that I would likely lose my current flat-to-25hz measured response and it would most certainly require more power. Your smaller speakers might share that same fate.
Good luck with your new *component*. :)

Well, my buyer left them at my place for like almost 2 years until the Grand was done. Now that i am putting new ribbons inside the Grand again, i just used them. They will leave on March 28th tough. But i bought an Apogee Stage and a Acoustat Spectra 11 so i am not worried.
Suprisingly the DIVA player louder and lower in this big room then in my small room.....
-
Didn't you tell me you moved them to London shortly after you had agreed to sell them in summer '06?
(I liked your Diva:))

That was the plan, but the buyer reconsidered and left them until i had another pair of speakers set up. ^^ He is a nice buyer!
-
If that's the case he's very patient. Let me know if you're in London;)

Wow flo, those pics just made me realize how friggin HUGE your listening room (or should I say concert hall) is...
the fact that they play lower in your room is normal, you could say that the bass actually 'fits' in the room now. the bass response is also more even, I presume...
the louder fact does slightly surprise me though...
Keep them spinning,
Bert.

Well, this was my first room... Quite a difference :-)

WOW just think of the toys you can play on that car park a nice 1/5th scale gas HPI baja would be fun.
-
Wow Flo. You couldn't find any better speakers so you changed the room? Nice. Very nice.
-
Flo, I'm in awe.
But somehow I can't help but think that a nice pair of Roland DS-30A digital monitors would pull that system together really well.
-
What can I say Flo,

Very nice place. I haven't received my house warming party invitation yet, I assume it's "in the mail". :)
-
Thanks guys!
Yep, cant find something i like better then the Grand. And this room is a good "middle" ground for my speakers. I think i should be done in 3 month when it all comes together nicely. But the best part is the "no neighbors" situation.... you can play as loud as you want to at 4am in the morning..... mmmh
PS: I wish i could buy some of spankys studio monitors, but for now, ill stick to what i have... maybe when i throw the housewarming party.. :cornut:
-
Hey flo you could get a nice air conidition system on the celling .Keep your room nice and humid and it will also keep your stereo system nice and cool.:ihih:
-
I found this pics from 1 of my Mag ang I thought of you. Wondering if this pix really taking at your new place.

Thats so beautiful!
I really love big spaces and big soundstages. Someday i will build a super Grand in a massive room. Maybe twice or three times the size of the Grand now. Aaah, one can only dream :)
