    A/D/S L780's any good?

These speakers are 18 years old. Are todays speakers much better? So should I upgrade or keep these L780's?

Well, I can remember liking them...

...when I heard them! I can remember a somewhat dark and distant presentation, but mellow and satisfying. Am I close? I lusted after these along with the Alisons and Snells.

Many of today's offering will stake their reputation on detail and having an "up front" soundstage... almost the direct opposite of that 'ole A/D/S sound.

Are they "better"?... I have no idea... I would do some LONG listening sessions with your top contenders against your current speaker.

Sorry, a generic answer, but only you can decide... the A/D/S were pretty good...

Red face Those ADS's are quite nice...

I've owned several pairs of ADS speakers and I've found them to be excellent vintage speakers considering when they were made. I've a collection of Epicures, Ohms, Allisons and ADS, and they more than hold their own as bookshelves and floorstanders. You could do a lot worse.
