    Hpm 100 Issues
I received my speakers today, and after an hour of testing heard static/
feedback from 1 speaker, traced the noise to the woofer, and then one
by one unplugged each driver. With each driver on it's own I discovered
no output from the super tweeter, low output from the midrange, the
tweeter seemed ok. All wiring inside the cabinet looks ok, as does the
crossover by looking at it, I have no way to check the board itself. I
plugged in a surround speaker and it is ok on that wire. All the drivers look
normal from the front and back. I'm guessing there's a short somewhere,
but why did it play at all. I guess the midrange and tweeter probably
never were working, I was hearing the other speaker (which is okay)
I think. I may do the elimination trip on that one too. Any idea what
this could be, I have no problem sending them in for bench testing, put
if I can fix it, that would be better. Thanks in advance.

If you don't get the help you need here go to www.audiokarma.org they specialize in vintage gear.
That said; Have you checked the drivers with a meter? Have you tried swapping the drivers with the good speaker. The speakers are "sorta" old so there is the possibility of bad capacitors in the crossover.

Speaking of HPM-100s, mine sound fine, but should I consider recapping the crossovers due to old age?

Yes, I switched the mid-range and drivers, and of coarse it sounded perfect, so
I ordered 2 upgraded CO's from the speaker shop I use, and had them overnighted
today. The seller already sent half of my buying price, which was pretty straight up
I thought. Finally a trustworthy ebay seller! Thanks for all the input.

Recapping with new better caps couldn't hurt. It could give substantial improvement. Caps do age and change value.

Wow. So did my ex-wife! Thanks for the info. Not knowing anything about capacitors myself, any suggestions as to type and brand/source?
