Speakers to compliment my sound card

Alright, I've had these for quite a few years now: X-530

Clearly I'm in need of an upgrade. This past Christmas I got this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829271003

Clearly they are in two completely different leagues.

I have a budget of $100-200, and I want some great sounding speakers that will compliment this awesome soundcard. I'm thinking some desktop speakers, I was looking into this company but I dont know if they're quite what I'm looking for: http://www.krksys.com/index.php

Backtrack for a second. My main use is obviously to listen to music, and listen for clarity. But I also would be playing some games and watching some movies.

Just for clarification, is a studio monitor even something I should be looking at? I don't plan on making any music, only listening to it (I do love clarity, once I became educated of bitrates I've started to collect stricly 320kbps CBR, or FLAC). Let me know what kind of speakers I should actually be looking at and I am interested in having something with digital-out since my card does support it.

You can certainly use these speakers for gaming and you can add a subwoofer. The question is are you happy with a 2.1 set up or do you have to have a 5.1 set up.

I'm fine with a 2.1 setup, the only thing I ever utilize 5.1 for is racing games, which I havent even touched in a year. Plus music is my main focus and since thats dual-channel, no point in 5.1.

Question though, how does RCA/TSR compare to SPDIF? Will buying monitors even take advantage of my sound card? Will the sound card even boost performance and output? (You can consider me a noobie).

I miss-read your comment. Right now I have a 5.1 setup, the Logitech X-530's. And I've been so used to having all the speakers playing that it just feels odd when I switch it to just the front two. But I'm sure that I'll get used to a 2.1 or 2.0 setup over time especially since they'll be producing much better sound than these basic computer speakers.

Also - does anybody know of a good receiver that I'd be able to pair up with passive monitors so that I could utilize the SPDIF from my sound card?

What is your budget for a receiver? If you want to continue 5.1 or even 3.1 then a home theater receiver or AVR is what you should consider.

I've moved onto looking into 2.1 or 2.0. But thanks for your suggestions. I also looked at your other posts on my other thread and I don't think I want to go the amp/receiver route (Actually, would I be able to purchase a woofer down the line and still use it if I dont go the amp/receiver route?).

I'm thinking powered studio monitors are my main focus now.
