    Help...problem with JBL S412P speaker
Sorry if this is in the wrong place on the forums but I need help diagnosing/fixing a problem with one of my JBL S412P speakers. This is a four-way speaker with a powered subwoofer.

When low frequencies are delivered to the 12" driver there is a lot of distortion. When you touch the driver with your hand it buzzes briefly. I've plugged the other speaker into the same speaker output on my receiver and this does not happen so I'm pretty sure it's not the receiver.

I've had these speakers for about 6 years and really love them.

Can anybody tell me what the problem might be...is there an easy fix?

    Thanks!

Sounds like the woofer is blown, meaning that the voice coil is damaged. The buzzing is the give away combined with it not happening when you hook up the other speaker. This will happen when it is played too loud for too long. The voice coil heats up and gets damaged.

There is no easy fix, other than replacing the woofer. Which actually is pretty easy, come to think of it. It probably isn't under warranty after 6 years, but JBL can send you a replacement. It shouldn't be too expensive.
