Equipment to go with Magnepan MMG?
I've heard great things about the Magnepan MMG's. I've heard though, that a hefty amp/receiver is required to power them. I'm not to knowledgeable so I was wondering if anyone could recommend me an SACD player and an amp/reciever that would go well with these speakers and cost less than $500 for both. Also, would it be possible to fit a subwoofer in that $500 budget or is that asking to much? Thanks.

First off, welcome to the AR forums: lots of wacky people around here, full of free advice. :cornut:

I think we can forget about the sub too with a total budget of $500. But, remarkably, it is possible to get a brand new player and amp even for that skimpy budget.

For an SACD player, go for the OPPO DV-970HD ...

For the amp, go for a Panasonic SA-XR57S receiver, but don't try running it multi-channel: with the MMG's 4 ohm load, stick with stereo ...

You will be amazed how great these will sound with the MMGs.
