EPI reborn?

I've had a pair of EPI speakers since the early 80's. They were the first pair of speakers that I purchased with my own money, and I've always liked the sound. Typical "New England" sound, with a superior tweeter , these speakers have become collectors items to those who remember them.

Looking through a copy of Sound & Vision, I saw an ad for speakers designed by the legendary Winslow Burhoe. Mr Burhoe was the founder of Epicure, and EPI. It seems that he now has another company that sells his speakers directly.

Mr Burhoe has some very interesting ideas about speaker design, and he's included a primer on it that is quite an eye-opener. Here's a quote from his talk on speaker efficiency;

"The loss or wasted energy is mostly heat. In this sense, a speaker is essentially a heater which produces music as a by-product, which is why speakers occasionally burn out or blow up."

That one had me rolling on the floor!

I've a set of Epicure 201's I think that look amazingly just like that speaker pictured, except it has a 8 and tweet ranged in the front as well. Nice to see Mr. Burhoe is still swinging for the fences... I have too many EPI's in my house right now. I love them...

Still have a pair of the original EPI 100's with the inverted dome tweeter in my collection. Amazing sound for the dollar - even by today's standards.
