hehe, i've decided to put together a little thread for some "regular man's" "dream speakers"

so, a budget of between like $5000 and $15000
stand mound or floorstanding, flat panel or box, anything really...

here are a few cool ones that i've found:

Easy, the Focus Audio FS-888 are the absolute best sub $10K speakers I've ever heard...I know of three shops in a few cities I travel to for work, and I always try to make a pitstop.
Absolutely incredible, and surprisingly simple.

FWIW, I recently heard the Focus Audio Master series FM2, quite possibly the best, most realistic sounding speaker I've heard to date, but at $27,000, it's even beyond the realm of dreams for me....looks like they borrowed a few style cues from Von Schweikert, but the sound is all their own....

These do it for me......

Is it OK if I dream small?

A pair of Magnepan 3.6's,
A CC3 center,
2 pair of MC1's for surrounds & rears,

A PS Audio GCA-500 500 stereo amp,
A Parasound Halo A51 5 channel amp,

& a Parasound Halo C1 controller.

only the speakers, i'd go for the b&w 802d's (i would pick the 800d or the 801d but that wouldn't fit in the budget.

Some of mine:

O'Heocha D2-Saturn (those "Men in Black" looking ones I posted a picture of in another thread) -- they went for US$3-4K, last time I checked, I suspect it's more than that by now (it was many years ago)

Supposedly Nearfield Acoustics Pipedreams start in the US$12K range now, I would seriously consider those, if I came into that kind of money.

I don't really like the look of these Reimer Tetons, but they're supposed to sound excellent, and at ~US$7K.

I would also seriously consider Soliloquy's top of the line 6.5is (the original 6.5 was in the US$6K+ range, so...go figure...).

Oh, and Martin Logan's...and Thiels...and...

Oh! And Focal -- either the 1027 Be or perhaps the Diva Be (US$11.5K/pair).

Sound Lab electrostatics. The picture is the A1 at about $19k; to keep it under $15k, I could go for the similar, smaller A3's, about $14k.

cool, i like those, but if its curved, wouldn't the sound fields cross each other?

I've also been curious about VMPS loudspeakers. List price of Super Tower III is above the rules here. How about RM/X. I think someone on this site used to own a pair but not sure.

Yeah, that's called the "sweet spot". (Unless I'm misunderstanding you.)

I'm more interested in their sound than their looks:

As a current Sound Labs owner, I am naturally biased (no pun intended) towards their magic.

Another truly great speaker in this price range I've heard is the Magneplanar 20.1. I've been a fan of Maggies since I first heard Tympanis back in '74. Owned a pair of MG-IIs. They are capable of resolving differences in the finest of components. I first heard them driven by a Burmester CDP through a Conrad-Johnson ART preamp and Joule Rite-of-Passage amps using Nordost Valhalla cables.

Without a doubt, the very best HT system I've heard is Harry Pearson's review system at Seacliff. The very same pair of 20.1s in the front with double MMGC centers and 3.6 rears. Four Nola Thunderbolt subwoofers. Edge multichannel amp. Conrad-Johnson multi-channel pre. Meitner transport and DAC. Naturally, Nordost Valhalla speaker, interconnect and power cabling throughout.

Incredible. Simply incredible.

I guess my choice is (and was when I bought them) the Tyler Acoustics Linbrook Signature System at $5K/pr.
or maybe the Tyler Woodmeres at $10K/pr.:
