The Control 1 and HLS410 were completely different
I still have a pair of PROIIIs which is a Control 1 with a better tweeter and no tweeter level control, that were sold through the consumer end for many years. The HLS410 didn't have as good of drivers as the Control 1. The tweeter was probably the weakest thing on the 410. It really wasn't a bad speaker (not a great one either), and today could be found for dirt cheap. Far cheaper than you could get a pair of Control 1s or ProIIIs. About the only things the speakers had in common was the JBL nameplate.
Hope this helps.
But the Control 1 wasn't horn loaded
and used a cheaper tweeter. They may have both been polycarbs, I thought the original Control 1 was a small titanium. I used to work for the Consumer side and didn't have much to do with pro, except came across the Control 1s in lots of install situations. Must have just been a painted poly dome. Paint is made of titanium dioxide, so it wasn't completely dishonest. Marketing... My Pro IIIs have a 1" titanium.
Either would be a decent small speaker.
If I was putting all this effort in, I would be more willing to buy a pair of Energy Encore sats. They are available in pairs and would be very similar to the JBLs but should sound better.
