    Compression Horn Tweeters

Couldn't pass up these Foster compression horn tweets from Parts Express. They're regularly $99 but on close out for $15. Foster is the parent company of Fostex so the quality is good. At 100dbs they need to be tamed by a cap and I'm trying a .47uf at the moment to be paired with 93 db Fostex Tektons. I had some old grills ( wave guides ) from Sansui horns that fits nicely.

I'm cutting these off very high so what I hear is the top shimmer in the high hat cymbals which is what you want with jazz. Sweet indeed. I've seen lots of threads pairing the $$$ Fostex tweets with the FE126En but none have gone this cheap, yet I don't feel I'm missing anything with these. The common use of the compression horn tweets goes back to the 60's and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Man If I ever get down to Belton SC, I am going to have to look you up to take a listen to some of those speakers to see what all the fuss is about. How far are you from Belton?

Belton is about 100 miles from Columbia. I was in Anderson County yesterday. Here's the back side of the Foster Horns atop the Tektons. I'm driving them with the Dared 2a3c 4 ohm taps.

Adding these compression horns to the Tektons ( not shown yet ) completes this 3 way b-amped secondary system. The same speakers pictured here are on the opposite side of the book case. The silver JVC class D drives the i-frame OB bass Alphas ( I usually open both doors when they're playing ). The main amp is the Dared MP-2a3c which drives the white cone Tekton single driver full rangers and the horn tweets. The black unit on the left is an Integra DVD player while the black player above the Dared tube amp is a Sony SACD changer. An old Marantz Model 1150 integrated sits atop a Sony tuner and drives outdoor Axioms on the porch and BoFu full rangers in the LR.
