Can Near-Field Monitors be used for home listening?

I've heard alot about the great value of buying pro studio near-field monitors, apparently because the competition is quite fierce in this arena.

Specifically, I've heard great things about the Dynaudio BM5 and BM6 passives.

I was wondering how these would actually sound in a home stereo setup. Are these speakers specially "tuned" to be heard at close ranges? If so, would the sound be compromised if they were put in a stereo setup further away from the listener? Thanks.
