buying a sub under $1000-need help!

I am finally in the market for a HT. I just bought 4 in ceiling NHT IC-4's and a SC-2 center channel. I am powering these with a Denon 3805.

The problem is I was not too impressed with the matching NHT SW10ii. It seemed pretty sloppy. I have heard the Definitive Technology SuperCube 1 and was impressed with the sound. My budget is around $1000 for the sub and have not really seen anything else at my local stores other than that which make me go wow.

Any tips on products or sites to see would be appreciated! :)

I would check out B&W, Velodyne, and Paradigm. Alot of others would say you should get a Hsu Research or a SVS sub but me personally I won't buy anything that I can not hear first.

This one, the Titanic III 15" 1000 watt powered unit with parameteric equalizer from Parts Express looks like a winner;

There is a thread about it currently running in the DIY board. You can buy it assembled for $838 or build it as a one hour kit and save about $150. Assembling it appears to be fast and easy.

I second the Dayton.

You should be able to get the supercube I for under $1000. If you like the way it sounds then you should buy it. I personally like the way the supercubes sound and love the fact that they don't take up that much room. I wasn't too impressed by the B&W speakers (including subs) that I listened to before I bought my BP7000SCs.

With the exception of a DIY sub, I don't think you'll get more sub for < $1000 bucks than a 30-39pc+ or 16-46pc+ from SVS. However, they are BIG. The 20-39 is 16 inches around and 39 inches high cylindrical sub. When the wife saw it she said "it looks like a barrel of oil". When she heard it she wanted to give it a hug:)

I listened to Velodyne, B&W, Paradigm, Sunfire, and a HSU VTF-2, and then on a recommendation I ordered this SVS. The others were good but didn't wow me. SVS has a 45 day full refund guarentee, so I thought it would be safe to give them a try. It blended most seamlessly with my speakers. It was the most snappy and least boomy of all that I tried. They'll have to pry that sub from my cold dead fingers.

The SVS PB2-ISD goes for $998 delivered with the PB1-Plus going for $1,198 and the value of the bunch, the PB2-Plus, going for $100 above that. The HSU VTF-3 goes for $749 and the upcoming Rocket UFW-12 should be around $999+ shipping.

My room is 17x19x 9' ceiling. I also have pergo floors. I am now also looking into 2 subs instead of one. Any tips?
