    Hi.

Could you recommend me a pair of bookshelf speaker?

I listen to all kinds of music but like classic the most.

    My budget is around $300.

    Thanks.

There are a pair of Cambridge Soundworks Newton M-80's on E-Bay for $269.00. That is a really good deal. I have two pairs and have been very happy with them. Paradigm Titans are another option in your price range. Good luck.

You like 'classic' the most....classic what? Like vintage rap? Classic Rock? Classic-al? Classic Country?

AV123.com has the new X-series, X-ls bookshelf speakers on for $220. I got to hear these a few months back. They are the best speaker under $300 I've heard as of right now. I'm sure someone will beat it someday. Axiom sells the M3Ti's which would be close in performance (but a bit more money) though some may prefer their brighter sound. The Paradigm Titans, while not the value leaders anymore are still popular and easy to find. For under $300, you could probably get the Paradigm Mini Monitors used on ebay or audiogon, which are a big step up on the Titans and much closer to the Axiom or the X-series X-ls in performance.

Lost of options out there - start visting some stores and testing speakers in your price range to get a feel for what to expect. You'll know it when you find a speaker that works for you.

These are a very nice speaker. I own the previous model 1B and use them as surround speakers. For a while, I was using them as my mains while saving up for new mains PSB Image T45s. They have a big open sound sound, and the treble coming from these speakers is soft but very revealing as oposed to bright, harsh, and in your face . I've listened to Tchaikovsky's Vilon concerto in D at good loud volume levels and the sound always stayed composed, especially the tweeters. They never got strident or harsh sounding. Give them try. I think you would be very pleased with them.

I own both the x-ls speakers from av123 and the Axiom M3Ti's. I would recommend the x-ls for their sound and better build quality.

    Once again...

...I'm going to recommend the ones I know: the Monitor Audio Bronze 2's. Smooth treble, life-like midrange and bass that goes to 42 hz. If you Google these speakers you will notice that every pro review has raved about them and the value that they represent. Also check the consumer reviews on this site.

I bought mine at DMC Electronics in Garden Grove CA. for $300.00. I believe that they also sell online.

    Happy Hunting!

    B15

I'll chime in on the PSB B15s as well; I think I paid $369/pair. I'm a newbie, so I can't speak to the type of music they're best at. I tested them with Roy Orbison and Emerson, Lake, & Palmer, and they filled up a small room (~12'x14') just fine. I use them as rears, with T45s as fronts, but I believe the B15s could stand on their own on a 2 channel system in a small-medium room. I also believe I am wasting their potential using them the way I am.

    Thanks, guys.

I've decided to buy the JMLab 705s.
I am also buying a receiver (Marantz SR4021) too.
I feel like my choice will have very weak bass but this time I wanted to have some nice
    and clear highs.

I hope I could upgrade my system soon.

    Thanks again.

I hate to sound like a jerk here, but I was wondering if there was perhaps a way on this website that we could post a thread that lists all of the following:

    Budget Amps
    Budget Floorstanders
    Budget HT
    Budget HDTV
    Budget Receiver
    Budget Bookshelf Speakers

I think that this would eliminate all the redundancy and also be beneficial for those that are looking.

I've had Axiom M3Tis for a couple years now and couldn't be happier. I intend to spend quite a bit more when it's upgrade time.

Good luck with your new speakers!

Another vote for the X-Series x-ls speakers. Danny Richie designed gems that are easily worth their selling price, IMO.

...so I ordered them a few days ago.

At first, I didn't notice there was a matching sub. If the x-ls are too light I'll probably order that as well.

If the x-ls sound half as good as they look, they'll easily be worth 200 seashells!

I have to find spikes for the stands...

Not a jerk at all. A constructive suggestion.

A topic dedicated to budget gear is not a bad idea at all. Most people start out in Hi-fi with budget gear or used gear. It would be our contribution to urge people to consider choosing some inexpensive yet good performing gear they might not have heard of rather than just plopping down some plastic at the Best Buy. Westinghouse LCD's, Cambridge Audio integrated amps, some of the great cheap speakers mentioned in this thread, etc. If the information was concentrated, it might make it easier for the casual viewer to get more engaged than just reading the product review section. We are a minority within all audio consumers. I am among only 2 or 3 out of several dozen educated and technically trained folks I know at work who care at all about this stuff yet they are all heavy consumers of it. The same people might be more excited if they could experience better Hi-fi within their budget. At least I would have more people to talk to about this stuff.

    on a rant, sorry.

    I'd second the B&W DM600s - a surprisingly good speaker (I've got a pair in my kitchen).

Another that I haven't seen mentioned that is worth a listen is the Boston Acoustics CR67. I'd give the edge to the B&Ws, but the Bostons are a very nice little speaker that does a great job of sounding much bigger than it is.
