Bose Soundock?
I realize that this product would never be considered as a replacement for anyone's audio setup, but I was considering it for a stand alone for the porch and for travel.
I listened to one at a friend's apt. and was impressed--and I, like most, have a built in bias against Bose products.
Have you heard it? What do you think? Worth the $300 or overpriced garbage?
Thanks,
Jibba

Wow, they dont only sound bad ! They completely lock the sound out too...now we are getting somewhere :-)
PS: I dont know, but i think that the a actual mini cubes sound ok for normal listening if you want to see them at all.

Overpriced. The JBL and Altec system are a lot cheaper and sound just as good, if not better. If you really want smokin' sound from your iPod, check into this little honey from Von Schweikert. Geoffcin, a moderator here, has a pair and seems to think very favorably of them. The price is hard to beat.

Topspeed, I can't thank you enough--just viewing those little beauties ( with a subwoofer?!) is enough to make anyone forget about the alternatives. This is a complete no brainer.
I'm going to order a pair today. Truly an outstanding recommendation. I owe you a beer someday. If you're near DC I'll make good on that.

De nada. Let us know what you think of it when you get a chance.
Alas, I'm on the opposite coast but tip one back for me ;)!

Yes, a good set of $100 computer speakers with a sub will blow the Soundock off the porch.
A set of $39 computer speakers would be just as good as the Sounddock.

I heard these things at a friends house last Sunday. They sounded pretty good and she likes the setup. The girls especially liked the little volume/mute gizmo. Of course had to point out that my old Luxman integrated had that in 1975. They're cute, sound OK and have that little techie factor. What the heck, if you want them, you want them.

Yes, I have these

And they have been given the exaulted status of my bedroom MP3 player. They are a great little unit, and a steal at that price. The system is also quite compact, and works well with a portable CD player, or Ipod. Doesn't "dock" with the Ipod though....(BD)

sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but the link is broken. Does that speaker still exist? What would you consider to be the best alternative to the sounddock these days?

It was a one-off using some rather expensive drivers in the sattilites.
I've always though this one was interesting;
