    Bass Enhancer
Compairing the Edirol MA-10D and the MA-15D how much better does the MA-15D sound like when the Bass Enhancer is on? What I need to know is is it worth getting the MA-15D when I already own the MA-10D?

Seriously, you're simply not going to get any real bass out of a 4" driver no matter how you equalize it or add false harmonics.

The old Bose 901 design used about a 30 db boost with its complement of (9) 4" drivers. While that worked, it required hundreds of watts of power to achieve.

    LOL :p

I did see its self powered and all, but i mean a good budget amp and a cd player with a good dac + some nice entry level speakers would be worlds of difference. I mean the whole thing weighs like 3KGS-----INLC AMPS AND DAC !! LOL

    Flo -

You're talking to a troll, and the speaker in question is self-powered nearfield monitor anyway. Just a waste of time responding to this kind of nonsense.

The comments re Behringer should not be dismissed. Consider for example:

    http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHB2031P

"Bass Boost" features on nearly anything are a red flag. There are ways to modify bass but none are cheap or simple. They are not neccessarily unapproachable, however.

The thing you are looking at probably EQs the bass at around 60-100Hz. This range is just as likely to need attenuation. Also keep in mind that bass boost is very different from bass extention.

If you are really serious about all this you need to invest (its a small investment) in an inexpensive SPL meter and a test disc with 1/3 octave pink noise bands. Trying to get the bass right whether near field or otherwise with out some form of measurement just leads to frustration.

Although more pricey, these are classics in many studios made by Tannoy:

There is a new model waiting in the wings, so you may get a better price.

Here is an LMS curve taken in the lab here using a live room environment:

As you can see, bass is healthy without having to resort on MaxxBass style enhancements.

SV, think about your question. Should I buy a $180 pair of powered speakers instead now that I just bought the $130 version? The differences would be negligible. Neither will really do what you want anyway.

Save your money and buy some real monitors like what has been suggested when the budget allows.
