Question Main Speakers For Audiophile Nightclub

I'm planning on opening a nightclub using high-end audio equipment, but due to my limited knowledge I'm having a hard time finding main high-end speakers for the club . The area of the club will be aproximately 1500 to 2000 sq.ft. and we'll be playing jazz, acid jazz, disco, and some light house music. The amps will be Mcintosh and the model will depend on the speakers.
Could anybody help me out choosing the speakers and the subs?

    Thanks a bunch!!

How many speakers will you need? That is quite a huge space and you're going to need something that can put out massive SPL and bass. Home speakers are not generally designed for such applications.

I would post on the high efficiency forum at audioasylum.com or the speaker forum there as well.

For main speakers, I would recommend the Swans Pro1808R. I suggest contacting Swans directly at their California office for information on purchasing these speakers. There is some additional information on the Pro1808R speakers here.

For your subwoofer needs, I recommend that you send an email to SVS and get their opinion. I have found them willing to recommend whatever products are likely to get the job done, even if they are sold by competitors.

Actually I can think of one company off hand that is high end and may work for that space - PMC - the big ones http://www.pmcloudspeaker.com/bb5xbd.html

You would have to check with PMC about positioning and if they are in fact suited for a giant room. You would need something comdortable at playing 120db+ with bass. They are well over 10kus are full range but weigh close to 300lbs each.

I heard some big ATC monitors in a club recently. Their speakers are excellent.

You didn't mention a budget but if you want butts in the seat to hear your sound and buy drinks you need a pair of Dynaudio Temptations. The Evidence would really pack'em in but they're $85k where the Temptations are round $35k. If those are out of your budget listen to something in the Confidence series. You won't get the same awe effect but they will sound outstanding. I think most would agree for music the sub should be REL. If your club is large and you want SPL take a listen to some Electro Voice. These are professional sound speakers but for the range they cover they do sound very good. They have the best sounding horns I have ever heard. But you could still have a disspersion or sound stage problem with pro speakers. However , that would seem to be a problem in a club setting anyway. I wouldn't know who to recommend but since you are using a sub anyway, you might want to consider strategically placed sets of in wall speakers about ear level of sitting patrons. Maybe a set on each wall so no matter where you sit you get a stereo image. You might want to consult a sound engineer on that thought, I don't know if you would have frequency cancellation and overlap with that type on configuration. You could go with a concert type configuration with a large set of speakers on one wall and everyone sort of face that general direction. The Temptations would be great for that. In a large room Martin Logan's would be nice but you pretty much have to be in the sweet spot to appreciate them. Dynaudio makes pro speakers for studios too but I'm not familiar with that side.

Sounds like you could use 2 systems...one for the jazz and one for the disco...why spend for hi-end audio for a night club? Go to a pro shop, and let your ears do the walking. Make sure also to have a decent PA for the day you decide to bring in 'live' music and don't have to keep renting it.
