Lightbulb "Discman" with 1 bit DAC

Sitting here listening to my late 90's Discman, I noticed it says "1bit DAC". Considering that lately CD players have gotten better, moving up to 16, 24 bit DACs, I thought of something.

Has any company released a portable CD player with anything greater than a 1 bit DAC?

Just in case you're unsure of what a 1-bit DAC is, here's a good overview:

Otherwise to answer you're question, I'm not sure. Given the fact that a 16-bid DAC requires more physical parts, it seems logical that the ever-shrinking portable discman is going to use the more space-efficient 1-bit DAC system.

You might want to try checking online at sony.com or panasonic.com and see what their new players are spec'd at.

    Hope that helps.
