    Hey Hockey Fans....

So, to help me through this rough time, I was going to put together a hockey comp, but I could only come up with five hockey songs. So....a hockey EP maybe?

Anything that you can add to the list? I've got...
    Big League - Tom Cochrane
    Hockey Skates - Kathleen Edwards
Hockey Song - Stompin' Tom Conners
Legend of Wendel Clark - The Rheostatics
Fifty-Mission Cap - The Tragically Hip. (Someone needs to spoof Fifty-Mission Cap with a strike song called, Fifty-Million Cap. )

As an aside...what are you doing to fill your time now that Hockey is off the agenda? In Canada, Saturday nights are traditionally "Hockey Night in Canada" on the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corp) network. Instead of Hockey, they're doing "Movie Night in Canada". Three back-to-back movies. They start with a nice family film and then move through the evening to more adult-type films. Last Saturday was The Princess Diaries , followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and lastly (at about 11:30) Blazing Saddles. This coming Saturday is Monsters Inc. , followed by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade , and then for the grown-ups, Young Frankenstein.

On Wednesday nights, TSN (the Canuck equivalent to ESPN) is showing Classic games. Tonight is game 4 of the 1992 Stanley Cup final...Pittsburgh vs. Chicago. Anyone care to place a wager on the outcome. (Although it'll be baseball on the tube in our house tonight. Go Bosox!)

Me? I'm just killing time until Lacrosse season begins in January.

How Hockey Does It Have To Be?

Joni Mitchell had "A little money riding on the Maple Leafs" in her song Raised on Robbery from Court & Spark.

Hockey Songs? ForeverAutumn, are you married????

    Here's some nominees:

Megadeth - "Crush 'Em" (hockey anthem all the way)
Queen - "We Are the Champions" (duh)
    The "Rocky" theme song
Blur - "Woo Hoo" (after ever goal is scored)

And who sang that song "Wayne Gretzky Rocks"? (lyrics are: "...Actually, I like the Hawks, but boy, oh boy, Wayne Gretzky rocks!!!") can't remember...couldn't hurt though.

Guns 'N Roses - "Welcome to the Jungle" (Famous puck drop song) AND "Sweet Child O' Mine"(famous 3rd period rallying song...Slash still rules).

What about that "Hey" song? That'd be a good one...

And..."Hey Kiss him Goodbye (Na na na an)" or whatever the heck that song's title is.

    I'll keep thinking of some...

As for hockey fix...We've got junior hockey out here, and the CIS University league is top notch to watch (Go REDS). Tons of hockey left to watch...

(P.S....$50 Million Cap? Maybe $35 Million...)

    Leafs STILL suck!!!

How hockey does it have to be? Well, if I do this, I'm going to have to lower my standards in order to come up with enough material.

The Joni Mitchell song qualifies. But I want songs that are about hockey or have actual hockey references. Playing the song during the third period stretch or whatever you call it (I'm KIDDING!) doesn't qualify it......yet.

P.S. double bonus points awarded for Maple Leaf references.

    Misfits - "NY Ranger"

Won't fill up much space on a comp, but it is a song about a hockey team.
And the world will turn to flowing pink vapor stew.

I'm just funnin' with ya ForeverAutumn...I was a die-hard Leaf fan growing up (and die-hard is the right expression, that's exactly what happened every spring)...then the Leafs struck out with me.

Strike 1: Trading Wendel Clark for Matsilda Sundin (and eventually giving him the "C")
Strike 2: Trading Doug Gilmour (I weep as I write this)
Strike 3: The ACC (what a dead, dreadful arena - 16000 business suits and 3000 hockey fans just doesn't cut it...the ol' Gardens was a TEMPLE!!! When we screamed, they heard us in Montreal)

    (I'm not bitter)

    Okay...direct references to the Leafs...
What's that other Hip song with them in it...hmm...Bobcageon, maybe???
Don't the Barenaked Ladies have a few?

Wasn't Beck's first big song about the Leafs?

Geez, this thread just got aweful hard...

Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song) -Warren Zevon

Sorry, don't have it or I'd send it to you.

UHL hockey is alive and kicking and the Kansas City Outlaws are taking to the ice regularly. Still, I really miss our IHL team, the Blades. I know it's not the same as NHL but remember, I live in Kansas.

You can download the HNIC theme song off the web - and the Coach's Corner ditty too...that'd be a good intro/exit combo for your comp...

I have the HNIC theme song on my cell phone. I only use that ring during playoffs though.

    Good idea for the comp!

And...I have to agree with your three strikes. Although....I do love my Mats. (sigh/flutter eyelashes)

The Zevon song (actually written by sports writer Mich Albom) is the best song about hockey I've yet heard.

Dropkick Murphys has a song called "Time to Go" which is really a Boston Bruins fight song.

And there's a band called The Zamboni's who have a whole careers worth. Their album "100% hockey and other stuff" actually gets 4 stars from allmusic.com and a pretty good write-up to boot.

Toronto's own Jane Siberry has a very nice song called "Hockey" on her Bound By The Beauty CD about growing up on the ice....

winter time and the frozen river
    sunday afternoon
they're playing hockey on the river
    rosy...
he'll have that scar on his chin forever someday his girlfriend will say hey
    where...
he might look out the window...or not
you skate as fast as you can 'til you hit the snowbank(that's how you stop)
and you get your sweater from the catalogue
you use your rubber boots for goal posts
    ah...walkin' home
    don't let those sunday afternoons
get away get away get away get away
break away break away break away break away

And since hockey fans tend to be a little on the unimaginative side....
