dvd vcr combo

I know for resding the threads here that it's not a good ideal to have a combo for many reason but a friend of my is looking to get one. I was wondering what are some of the all around better ones. I seen the thread "17 reasonable dvd's", would that be a better way to go?

Get the Cyberhome dvd for about 30-35 bucks and then a cheap vcr and you probably spend under $90 total. Cheaper than most dvd/vcr combos.
