Wireless surround sound speakers?

I'm setting up a surround system in a small room and would like to avoid running speaker wire to the surround sound speakers. Are there any 'wireless' products out there that provide this type of functionality and are reputable?

There are two types of wireless. One is analog and the other digital. Basically, there are not much different from your cordless phone technology. Both are subject to interference and IMO only good for background music.

While It is possible, the quality of the sound is very low.

Also, instead of having to run speaker wire, now you will need a 110v power plug close by to utilize a built in amp.

there are some wireless speaker systems out there - most recently is Samsung's Bluetooth system. It's similar to a Sony Dream System, except for the wireless speakers which receive their signals via Bluetooth. And because they are trasmitted via Bluetooth, as long as you're within 30 feet of the transmitter, you wouldn't have to really worry about the interference of objects blocking a transmission.

this is currently the only system i know of which uses bluetooth to transmit a wireless audio signal...so if you find of, or hear of any others, please let me know. :-)

there is also an add-on system which adapts existing systems to transmit via bluetooth...It's called Hi-Phono and it's a little more bulky - since a transmitter is connected to your system, then a receiving is connected to each speaker - so speakers mounted to walls or ceilings might not be ideal for this type of adaptation.

Bluetooth just like any other wireless connection is subject to interference. Further more, since it is a low RF power device, it is very easy to be interrupted by RF noise in the same frequency range. For applicaitons that are need not be real time, error recovery can be implemented but not for real time applications such as HT surround speakers.
