    New to AudioReview forums

    Hi All,

I'm new to the forums here along with being relatively new to a long-term relationship and its impact to my home theater system. The end result was selling off my home theater (Denon AVR-4800 and Definitive BP2002 tower speakers) for a mix & match setup of a Yamaha RX-V673 (mine) and her Sony home-theater in a box speakers. Admittedly, her Sony 55" TV is pretty awesome, and so is she. But....Help! I need better speakers and am now on a significantly tighter budget. Two types I'm weighing are the Definitive ProCinema 800 vs. the Pioneer SP-PK52FS set.

Any feedback on either set would be greatly appreciated.

As an aside, I submitted this as an intro, but will be posting a high-end Sony SACD player in classifieds soon at my lady friend's request. Take a gander if interested.

    Best regards,
    Scott Maase

I would say that for the very inexpensive entry price the Pioneer system is a very attractive package and even though better can be had the Pioneer setup is designed by a very good designer from TAD speakers which are very expensive high end speakers. The only thing I would add is that from the experience of people that have owned or heard this system the subwoofer does not keep up with the rest of the speakers in this setup making it the bottle neck of the system. My advise would be to buy the Pioneer fronts, center, and rear speakers and then look for a sub with a little more capability. SVS among others offer subs at different price classes that will fill the bill nicely.

    Marantz SR5008(HT)
Nu Force P8 Preamp (2 channel)
    Pass Labs X150.5(2 channel)
    Adcom 545 mk2 power amp(rear channel amp)
Spatial Audio M3 Turbo S Mains Speakers
Dayton 8" HO custom sealed subwoofer(2 channel)
    Yamaha NS-c444 center channel
    Emotiva ERD-1 surround speakers
    JBL e250p subwoofer highly modified
    Samsung 46" LED TV
OPPO BDP-83 blue ray/multi format player
    ps-audio NuWave dac (2 channel)
Dell I660 music server running fidelizer windows 8 audio optimizer
    PS Audio Quintet power center

Harleyguy, thanks very much for the reply and recommendation. I'll give SVS a look for an appropriate sub to accompany the Pioneer set.

I just bought a pair of Definitive Tech. Promonitor 1000's open box from Crutchfield to use as speakers for my new Samsung 55 TV. They sound great. Other speakers to consider are PSB Alpha B1's which you can get for about $240pr for B-stock at Saturday Audio Also consider the PSB B5's, B4's and take a look at these-

NHT - Super Zero 2.1 - Mini Speaker-Audio Advisor These are excellent sounding, small in size (great WAF) and great bang for the buck. Read the reviews.

    Monitor Audio - Bronze BX-1 - 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers-Audio Advisor

    Mordaunt-Short - Aviano 2 - Bookshelf Speakers-Audio Advisor

Also check out subs here- HSU Research
