Ariston RD40 turntable

Have a few questions about the above turntable=
I bought it several years ago,second hand and it did not come with the record clamp......i know its the model that uses it as it has a thread on top of the spindle......My questions are=
1.Do i really need the clamp?
2.Will it improve the sound Quality?
3.If so,where can i get one?
I have read that weighted clamps strain the bearing but it doesnt look that big on this one..was thinking of buying a 1 pound centre weight.
Any thoughts?
