Jeff Mangum touring. Seeing him live would be fannnnnnnnnnntastic.

Never thought I would have the opportunity to see this guy perform. For those of you who don't recognize the name, he was the front man (vocals, guitar, lyrics) for seminal indie band Neutral Milk Hotel and co-founder of the Elephant 6 Recording Company. The band split up in 1998 and has been rarely seen since then, although he's played drums on a recent recording for the Apples in Stereo and also for Circulatory System.

He's playing basically all NMH songs on this tour, and it should be most excellent. Here are the dates for his upcoming shows. Swish highly recommends it!

I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

He played here, in Minneapolis, last year too. Heard it was great, but as might be expected, EVERYONE sang along with every song, as loudly and joyously as they could. I would've been so annoyed with that, I was afraid it'd ruin the show for me. Plus it sold out in minutes. Hope it's a great show though if you make it, truly rare opportunity that I'd never thought would happen a few years ago.
btw, he put out an incredible vinyl box set a year or so ago that I think is still available...both full lengths, 'Everything Is' EP, some amazing 45's, a 10" w/ 10 solo acoustic songs from Aeroplane...plus it's the prettiest music object I own.

I can't recall a recent show where there weren't a gazillion people singing along and it IS annoying. Well, not so much at the Andrew Bird show, which was awesome.

Thank God they didn't do that when I went to concerts. Maybe my kind of music doesn't lend itself to sing-alongs. More the air guitar group.

The wife and I were deciding what to do for our anniversary March 28 when I saw this post. She loves San Antonio and we've wanted to visit Marfa for a weekend. So, I called the theater where Mangum is playing in Marfa on March 31 and scored tickets. Very pleasant experience sans ticketmaster. Now we have to plan the trip. We're thinking of flying to San Antonio for a couple days then driving to Marfa through Monday. Hope we can pull it off, but I'll only be out $40 if not.

My box set arrived yesterday. The Holland 1945 picture disc is stunning! I'm almost afraid to drop a needle on it. Thanks for the heads up on this outstanding package.
