    May Movie Previews

It is time for summer movie blockbusters, starting with Avengers and Men In Black III.

    Ranked by release date:

Marvel's The Avengers: When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

Dark Shadows: Director Tim Burton brings the cult classic series “Dark Shadows” to the big screen featuring an all-star cast, led by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter.

Small, Beautifully Moving Parts:When technophile Sarah Sparks becomes pregnant, her uncertainties about motherhood trigger an impulsive road trip to the source of her anxiety: her long-estranged mother living far away and off-the-grid.

Transit: A family on a road trip through the desert is stalked by criminals who stashed stolen money in their car.

God Bless America: Loveless, jobless and possibly terminally ill, Frank has had enough of the downward spiral of America. With nothing left to lose, Frank takes his gun and decides to off the stupidest, cruelest and most repellent members of society with 16-year-old Roxy, who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement.

Battleship: An epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.

The Dictator: The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.

The Samaritan: After twenty years in prison, Foley (Samuel L. Jackson) is finished with the grifter's life. But his past is proving to be a stubborn companion.

Crooked Arrows: The film centers on coach Joe Logan, who reluctantly leads a Native American high school team on their unlikely journey to the state lacrosse championship game against their prep school rivals.

Men in Black III: Agent J travels in time to MIB's early years in the 1960s, to stop an alien from assassinating his friend Agent K and changing history.

Is "God Bless America" Bobcat's directorial debut? I love the tagline, "Taking out the trash, one jerk at a time."

I hate to admit it, but my 14 year-old inner cut-up is glad to see that another Sacha Baron Cohen movie is just around the corner.

Dark Shadows - Does it look too much like a Tim Burton film? That's a loaded question, but it's not meant to be a slam. A personal stamp is a good thing until everything begins to look the same. Agree or disagree?

    Kind of agree

I guess the materials he choose to direct also got something with it too, and haviing Johnny Depp in almost most of his movies does not help too much either. Although have not seen all of his [latest] movies, IMO his best is probably Ed Wood and worst is Mars Attack.

well I also, have to "Agree" with you on the Tim Burton Stamp, although I'm so looking forward to this "funny Dark Shadows" (does the Adams Family ring a bell ish

IMHO on the Johnny Deeps choice, Its a very short list amongst the Versatile Actors, who can take on those types of "Multi Genres flicks" and makes it likeable, and the bottom line makes $$$$.

    Definitely agree with that statement

If you watch his film Ed Wood, you can tell how versatile and excellent actor he is. Another excellent actor that is same league as Johnny Depp is Robert Downey Jr. which proved himself in the 1992 film Chaplin.

Starting with the CEOs of the big banks would be the ideal place.

There are a lot real people like Sacha's fictional caricature.

I loved MIB (1); MIB 2 wasn't bad. Could be I'll actually watch MIB 3.

I'm actually a fan of Burton and Depp individually and as a team and I'm looking forward to their Dark Shadows effort. However, when I see the movie poster or the trailers I think "Tim Burton film" first rather than subject matter. It kind of bugs me on the one hand, but on the other, I generally like Burton's stamp.

Interestingly, I think Smokey's picks for both favorite and least favorite Burton films (Ed Wood and Mars Attacks, respectively) look the least like Tim Burton films, if that makes sense.

Interesting Deano, Mars Attacks is actually one of my guilty pleasures. Maybe because it doesn't feel like a Tim Burton movie. I never put that together, but you might be on to something there. I'm waiting to see what the hardcore Dark Shadow watchers think of it. I'll probably like it cause I won't be sitting there comparing it to the show.

I think Magnum Force with Clint Eastwwod had similar plot line as God Blesss America, but with Cops taking out the bad guys.

That movie would'nt been half bad if it wasn't for an explosion happening every five seconds
