    Sennheiser HD448 or ATHM50S

    Hi,
I am trying to decide between these two headphones and I seem to be leaning towards the ATH based solely on the reviews since neither one of them is sold locally.

Do any of you guys own both or have listened to both and would like to share your experience? I listen to a vast range of music but I am looking more for clarity of sound than a bass driven over produced sound.

I use Grado SR125s and they are very clean and clear and also have detailed bass.

Are you using with a regular audio system or in place of ear buds for an iPod?

These would be primarily used on my laptop and occasionally connected to the ipod.

the 125s may be overkill but the little brother, SR-60i is only $79 w/free shipping and a good sounding set of cans.

Thanks but I was wondering about the M50S vs. the HD 448 and looking for any experiences on either of those two headphones.

Also based on the various reviewers on Amazon a common issue with these is the earpiece falling off. And multiple users have reported the same problem so it does seem to be a recurring issue.

I gave my son a pair of the Senn HD448 for Christmas and he loves them. The HD448s are easy to drive with an iPod or laptop. They block out most but not all outside noise and don't disturb those around you. Based on my son's listening habits and his living in a dorm with roommates the Senns seemed perfect. They sound great too. I have 2 pairs of Grados but I didn't think they would be suitable for my son's situation. People around you can hear the Grados which is not a problem for me.

I tried out the Sennheiser 428 yesterday and the sound seemed crisp and clear but the bass was almost muted. It did not sound bad just muffled and even though I am not a bass head I do like the entire range to be represented well and from some reviews that I have read even the 448 needs an amp to drive the bass

So back to the drawing board. Anyone have suggestions for a closed set of cans that has an accurate reproduction.

I just ordered ATH AD700 off of Amazon. It should come close to what I am looking for since even one of their basic models sounds fairly accurate.

Nice choice. I have those in my Amazon wishlist. I didn't think they were convenient for portable use so I didn't consider them for my son who wears/takes his headphones everywhere, but I'd like to try'em for home use.

Don't forget to give us your impressions.

It has only been a day thus far but so far no complaints. Everything so far is coming out clear and lucid, the bass is present and alive but the guitar riffs are just as evident.

    Loving it so far

Senn is great- I'd say go with the HD448. I've got a friend who has them and he absolutely loves them. Don't block out everything but definitely block out enough. I usually like my headphones to not be completely blocking of all outside sounds, I prefer being able to hear if someone is breaking down my door.

Thanks I ended up with ATH AD700 and they actually sound really good and are great at catching the slight nuances even in a bad recording. Very accurate reproduction of everything that I have heard so far.
