I just pre-ordered Cardinal - Hymns. Release is January 23. Kinda pricey coming from the UK. With shipping included it comes out to $19.26US. Hope it is worth it.

Me too, and better than Cosmos IMO. I listened to the reissue of the S/T 1994 album back to back with Hymns, and the new album holds its own. Now I hope Davies does another solo album next.

Not quite as delicate and dynamic in the production and sound as the 1994 release, but not bad sounding either. Can't imagine fans of the first one, or any of the Davies and Matthews solo records in-between, not loving it. Though I'm sure some (music critics especially) might be a little disappointed that it doesn't really go anyplace new. I'd say, first impression from a Richard Davies perspective (because it does sound more like one of the Davies solo records than the Cardinal record), it probably owes more to his John Lennon side than the David Bowie side that came out so strongly on his first solo. And some of the Matthews orchestral flourishes do have a decidedly Beatles sound.

Overall, very fun record
