Too many bands, too little energy.

    When it rains, it pours.

    Sept. 1 - Saga
    Sept. 17 - Wilco
    Sept. 22 - The Shins
    Sept. 28 - Elbow
    Sept. 30 - David Francey
    Oct. 6 - Dream Theater
Oct. 15 - Shadow Circus or Iron and Wine (same night, different venues)

And in the midst of it all a trip to Las Vegas.

Wilco and Elbow are already done deals. Dream Theater in a small venue with Mike Mangini on drums will be hard to pass up if I can get good seats. The Shins would be great to see again. And this is Shadow Circus's first trip to Canada and, I'm sure, will be well worth the hour's drive to see (and meet John Fontana, the guitarist, who is a PE friend).

But I don't have the energy or cash right now to take them all in. The sad thing is that with all these great bands coming in such a short period of time, I'll probably go all winter without wanting to see anyone in town.

    Decisions, decisions...

I feel your pain. But it's a good kind of hurt, ain't it?

I won't bore you with my entire schedule for this weekend (Lollapalooza)... but these are the most notable 'playing-at-the-exact-same-time' conflicts I still must resolve...

    Muse vs. Coldplay
    The Cars vs. Flogging Molly
Titus Andronicus vs. The Joy Formidable
    White Lies vs. The Kills
Big Audio Dynamite vs. Death From Above
Foo Fighters vs. Cold War Kids
    My Morning Jacket vs. Beirut
Bright Eyes vs. A Perfect Circle
Foster the People vs. Smith Westerns
    OK Go vs. Crystal Castles

Each of these will be game-day decisions. Some will be literal coin-flips.

I can see your dilemma(s). I've seen both Coldplay and Muse. Both are excellent live shows. I can't provide any guidance as I think it's a travesty that they've had to schedule these bands against each other.

If it helps you (and it probably doesn't), I'd see Foo Fighters and A Perfect Circle. I don't know enough about the other conflicts to form an opinion.
