Possible causes of your blown speaker are large DC offset or blown output transistor(s) in the affected channel. If its DC and a temporary situation, you might have just a blown fuse. Check for a blown fuse. If you find one blown, replace it with a new one of the same type and rating, and check to see if the receiver will turn on. It is fine to power up the receiver with no speakers connected. If it does not turn on, then it has experienced a catastrophic failure of some kind, and you need to have a technician look at it.
