    Talking 5.1 receivers

I bought a Sherwood R-626 receiver about 2001 2002 time frame and this receiver has been in my system for almost ten years and I have no complaints. At 80 wpc this receiver will shake my upstairs room weather in stereo mode for radio or cd's this receiver is worth the money! Thanks to Sherwood for making a good product. Ps I tried to post on the product web site but it did'nt post!

As long as you like it and the sound satisfies you, keep it. I never was impressed by Sherwood but the company has its fans so enjoy.

By the way, what brand speakers do you have?

I only found one picture of this unit and nothing on the Sherwood site of discontinued models or manuals of this receiver. Generally, Newcastle recievers worked very well and had good sound. I am not sure wheter the R626 just had Dolby Pro-Logic though I think that is what it offered. It might have had other surround dsp modes.

Newcastle receivers were well made and got good reviews, I'm not sure why they never took off.

Aren't the Sherwood and Insignia receivers pretty much the same these days?

Yeah, they are pretty much the same but try to stay away of them. The sound quality is not that great. Optimus, Sherwood, Insignia, Aiwa

The New Castle line is much better than the standard Sherwood models although I think that they may have become dated.
