Well the 1906 has 7.1 set up in it so if you are planing to have a 7.1 set up go with that. But the 3802 deals out a whopping 110 watts a channel so if your only going to have the traditional 5 this would give you more power but then if you ever wanted to upgrade to a 7.1 you would have to buy a new receiver. If you own them both why not just keep both? And what are you planning to do with them? What speakers are you going to be using? And what size room?
    Hope this helps

Hey ok on my post I misread the specs on the 3802 ... it does have 7.1 and deals out more power and is newer ... I would easily say that you should keep the 3802

No, the 1906 is newer. You go by the last number for age, the first two number is rank. So it depends on what you want to do with the receiver. For sound quality the 3802 is best but lacks in HT features. Although the 1906 is newer it still don't feature HDMI, I thought it might but the feature list I saw didn't mention it. May be worth more research but HD component inputs there are. So if wanting video switching and surround sound the 1906 is your best bet. Personally, if I wanted up to date HT I'd sell them both and make up the difference to buy a current model.

Not sure what the Denon model is that begins with fully functional HDMI and HD audio decoding but look at Onkyo tx-sr607, Yamaha rx-v565 or Pioneer 919 to get a glimpse at what the feature list should look like.

Other manufacturer's have a similar number scheme but I was just referring to the Denon numbers. Denon's website has a pretty good archive of their older models.

Go with what Peabody said. If you want music, keep the 3802. I owned one and that 1906 isn't going to better it in sound reproduction. The 3802 was no slouch in video either, but it doesn't offer the latest/greatest, so that might be a reason to opt for something else. However, the 1906 doesn't offer the latest/greatest, either, so...

I'd sell both and move up to either one of the 9 series Denons (e.g., AVR1909; I believe HDMI and HD codecs kicked in on that series) or one of the entry level units from Onkyo or Marantz.
