entry level speakers

After some sage advice.. i decided against spending $1000 on floorstanding speakers (a lot of $ for me)..

i know many people have posted similar questions and the responses typically suggest the buyer go out a audition the speaker. this is not an option for me.

first impressions, quick answer, in your opinion.. what is the best option for me at the $300 price point. 50/50 movie/music.

I personally think so but your the one that has to put a $$ value on a bit better refinement and more bass extension. They are also more sensitive so your power requirements are less.

What he said! Just look at the frequency response of the 9.6's- 28-24K compared to 40-24k.
You will get deeper bass with the 9.6's and a larger presentation or sound stage.

Wharfedales all the way!!!!!! I have the new Wharfedale 10.1's and I absolutely love them. They were $299 and worth much more in my book. I don't have the room for floorstanders so I couldn't do the 9.4's or 9.6's, although they may sound better. You might also want to check out some PSB's like the B5 or the B25 (both bookshelves) but they have great sound as well and right around your price range. All of them can handle plenty of bass for music, but you would want a sub for movies. Good luck!
