I got this email from the DT Fan Club this morning...

This is an e-mail from 'DreamTheater.com Fanclub'

    Message:
Sorry for the late notice - just found out about this. If you sign-up for the Road Runner Records newsletter, you can get a free download of "Right of Passage" - a new DT song that will be released on the new album this June.

This is basically a 24 hour opportunity, so check it out now if you are going to. It's a great song - very different from other DT music.

    Enjoy!

Imagine the size of the venues they could play if they had a singer who could actually sing!

I don't care what you say...you're still a disturbed tool.

    DT has a singer?

I live for their instrumentals. LaBrie's vocals kept me from getting into DT...I sampled them long ago at a listening booth and dismissed them as heavy metal crap becuase of the vocals. It was only after LTE that I decided that DT had to much potentially good music was too good to ignore.

and then....the vocals do grow on a person. "Spirit Carries On" in particular showcases how great LaBrie's vocals can be...he's not screaming trying to be some headbanger here, it's very clean and powerful (of course, the fact the music is killer and the lyrics are emotionally charged helps).

I'll take the "Instrumedly" any day over a DT vocal though!

Hope more dates get added soon...the lack of a Seattle show is particularly distrubing but I am sure they will visit. If not I'll have to dream up an excuse to travel to our offices in Atlanta and drag DaveG to the show!

Then you may be interested to know that their new CD, Black Clouds and Silver Linings, due for release on June 23rd, will be available as a 3CD limited edition and one of the CDs is the full album as instrumentals only. The third disk is a disk of covers. You can pre-order the 3-disk set from Roadrunner Records or Amazon.

    Yes...I know everything.

Ya think maybe the band's getting the message?

I can just see them handing the CD out at concerts off the front of the stage when LeCheese goes offstage, with a little sticker on it that says "if you'd like to sing for DT, give us a call!"

I'd love to hear them do a CD w/ Russell Allen from Symphony X singing.

Lemme see if I got this straight

you'd replace Labrie, with Russel Allen? There ain't a hole lotta difference twix the two.

I admit that early DT was a turnoff for me because of Labrie's singing, but he's toned it way back since then.

I think there are major differences, altho I refuse to listen to any more LaCheese to opine on the two different vocal styles & ranges, sorry.
