    Denon 3808/Yamaha 1800/Marantz 7200/Pio 92TXH

Time to upgrade from my Denon 2805. I'm leaning towards the 3808. Why shouldn't i go that way?

I vote Denon 3808. I like the 3800 series. They use Torroidal power transformers which is a big step up from the 2000 seires amps. Denon's do seem more complicated to use though if you are technically challenged.

Shouldn't you be compaing the Yamaha 3800 to the Denon 3808 (they both list for $1600) rather than the Yamaha 1800 which lists for $1200?

That Pioneer lists for about $1100 and the Marantz 7002 (presume this is what you mean and not the 7200) lists for $1400.

Maybe in the Denon line the 2808 would be a more fair comparison to the Pioneer and Yamaha you listed.

    Cool

Maybe you should check out rich's 3800 on his self involved "new receiver" thread.
Once you get past the neurotic whining there are a few pics of his new toy, a 3800.
    Heard he got a deal

I can get a refurb 3808 with a factory warr for $999 plus shipping.
    I can get a refurb Onkyo 805 for $629 and a 875 for $999.
I can't find the 3800 for under $1200 anywhere from an authorized dealer.
    I'm leaning towards the 3808.

not spending $1500? after a really good discount and tax on the 3808, i'm looking at about $1500. It's canadian mind you so i'm looking at a coupla hundred markup, but where are you getting the 3808 for so cheap?

    even ebay you're looking at $1200 + shipping/duty/taxes

Oh your cooking now. Enjoy it my friend.

Just in time for the Final four....Go Memphis and Kansas in the final. The funny thing is I moved to Durham North Carolina from St. Louis and can't stand Duke. But now that Duke is out, and Kansas and Memphis is in, I'm going for one of them even though I do like the Tar Heels. But I am a little angry that Tyler did't go to Missour to play ball. So Go Memphis/Kansas.

So enjoy the game on your new system.

refurb isn't all bad...i sent my first xbox360 out for repairs and it came back good as new...as far as i know it's still working (dont have that one anymore, upgraded to HDMI version)

often the "problems" are small, like a lose connection on the main board or something.

granted it's not risk free, but it's often in better condition than used gear, and if you're not otherwise willing to spend MSRP then it's not the worst thing you could do.

ALL good points, a friend got a Harmon open box and its still going great(it was factory repaired).
I'm just not comfortable with it is all.
I hate stuff breaking, its the worst thing in the world. I would rather buy well and hang onto
    it forever.
And some stuff, like plasma tvs, MECHANICLE DEVICES LIKE DISC PLAYERS, ETC,
    well, that would be suicide.
A plasma broke at work, gas leaked out (less than a year old) wasnt worth fixing,
warrenty expired, there is now a wore out 27in where it used to be
