Shanling, anyone?

I'm in a search for a cd player, and have comme across newish chinese 'high-end' audio manufacturers. You'll see more on the following page:

They seem to have very good build, but I have no clue how they sound and their price seems too good to be true. If anyone knows anything/has experience, please tell me. I've been looking at the nad C525 (which I've been able to audition), arcam CD73 (right now on ebay uk).. aswell as various ES sony models. I'm looking for CD-RW playback. Budget is approx 400 (200£), can stretch.cheers

I only know of Shanling by rep and that is pretty good. Arcam which I do have experience in my opinion os one of the best bang for the buck CD players going. The Arcam vs Shanling, each would have a different presentation. The Arcam will be fast, revealing and articulat where Shanling would be warmer and fuller. Both would be better than the NAD, again, in my opinion.

What do you have? I think we can give you some valuable info if you can enlighten us with your situation.

Chinese gears can be incredible. I own this cheap chinese tube integrated amp and it really outperforms my pre/amp combo that costs over 10X more in certain areas.
It just might be the perfect way for you to get into audio, instead of taking an orginary route with with such brands like "%$^&" or "(&*$%)_@".

I'm not really certain, but if you are doing alot of reaserch/dreaming without owning a single gear, then I think that's great. Keep looking but remember to enjoy music thru whatever gears you have.

Hit or miss. I have only tried out a few and played around on a few, but was never really that impressed. Some of their models look really cool, but the sound was dull, not very lively, and disappointing.

Nope, nada at the moment i've left home to study abroad which means I'm naked, however my home gear isn't all that great either as I've never had a high budget, and it's home theater based (no offence to those who are into it). So i'm 'moving on' to plain 2 channel stereo.
I'm sure you can enlighten me but as funds are very limited I don't how much you will be able to, for the moment being. I like my music (wide range of tastes, but I guess I do have 'young' tastes as I enjoy trance - electro-house - trip-hop chill music but also stuff like piano & classical).

I'm sure it is, and reasonably priced also as it is all Chinese.

That's exactly right you wouldn't imagine the amount of time I waste on the internet looking up stuff (well maybe you people would as you are all addicts), especially now as i'm looking for a decent player, and temporary amp/speakers to go with. (that's why i'm also thinking of a computer based speaker system to go with the player, however horrible that sounds (I know it's an offence to you all).

In the meantime I do enjoy music with whatever it's played

PS: is there anything to hate about non-detachable power cord CDP's?

Not at all. Except that when chicks come over to my place, they always look to see if my CDP has a detachable power cable. They always think I'm quite a man.

Aftermarket PC do make a notificable difference, but you wont notice that much of difference the next day, unless you change it back to an inferior PC. But, power amps and receivers do make significant difference in sound when you swap out your PC
