Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth

Read a fawning review of a reissue of this recently. Is this something that I should own? Anyone hip to this record?

Probably. I like the album a lot, but I don't consider it to be essential (like many critics seem to). It's a stripped down pop record, with most songs having only a bass and an organ or guitar. A few tracks have drums/percussion, but it's a drum machine providing the percussion.

The real highlight of the album is the simple nature of the songs being sung by Alison Statton, whose voice seems to fit perfectly with the music. I think you'd enjoy the album, but I also think it probably would have made (and did make) a much bigger impact hearing it for the first time in 1980 (which I didn't) rather than hearing it for the first time today.
And the world will turn to flowing pink vapor stew.
