Smile Remastered Bond Movies: Excellent Sound&Vision.

As most of you know, last November MGM re-release entire James Bond movies in 4 box DVD sets with new remasterd picture (frame by frame digital restoration) and sound (DTS 5.1). And movies were only available in box set for $59 each.

But MGM recently has began to offer individual remasterd movies on DVD ($10) also, which Bestbuy had few selections on sale for $5. Picked up Octopussy, Live and Let Die, DR. No and A View to a Kill.

And I must say that picture and sound on these new DVDs are simply jaw dropping. The colors just jump out of screen and there isn’t a hind of grain, dust or compression artifacts to be seen anywhere on the movie.

And no mono or stereo tracks here, thank you very much..... DTS 5.1 cross the board

The only complaint I have is that in box sets each movie comes with double DVDs that contain extras. However for single Bond movie release, only one disc (feature film) is included. But for $5 a pop, I am not complaining

Yeah, I picked up a few as well, although I do have one of the box sets...I didn't waste my money on too many of the box sets because I am not a fan of any of the Brosnan films and I can take or leave the Daltons, but the Roger Moore's are my favorite, so I had to pick up the set that included FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. Speaking of which I need to watch that again...it's been about 3 months since I last saw it....

That is exact reason I didn’t buy the box either. Each box contain a mixture of all the bonds, rather than a set.

Have about 10 of Special Edition bond movies (remastered in 2003), so having a long debate with myself whether I should replace those movies with new remastered version or not. So far only buying those which I don’t have.

I think Roger Moore is my favorite Bond. He was Bond the longest (‘73 to ‘85).

Connery doesn't even make it into my top 3 Bond films if I had to rank them, which is probably an odd ranking compared to what most people would have, but here goes:

    Top 3 Bonds...

    1. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    2. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    3. LIVE AND LET DIE

Most people overlook ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE because of Lazenby, but this is one of the strongest storylines and the fact that Bond gets married and then his wife (the great Diana Rigg) is killed shortly after is just brilliant. I like the sense of darkness that befalls our character and also the seriousness of this film.

Roger Moore? Favorite bond? Well to each his own of course but as a Bond he is only slightly more popular than Lazenby. The international bond fan club has a good website, worth checking out.Connery is my favorite Bond and i think Goldfinger is my favorite film and Thunderball a close second. The new film was also very good and i think Daniel Craig was a very good Bond and i look forward to the next one.

Yes, favorite Bond. Sorry that our opinion doesn't align with yours. "Slightly more popular than Lazenby." Are you kidding me? Lazenby was in 1 Bond, Roger Moore was in how many....? 7. 7 to 1 and the word 'slightly' doesn't really justify those numbers. I realize that popularity isn't 100% related to the number of films, but the fact that Moore was James Bond the longest and was in more Bond films, I think that says a lot about him. Although Connery was in 7 as well, for those that consider NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN a true Bond film.

That was noy my opinion, that was the result of a poll on the web site i mentioned,jamesbond.com.When questioned, who was your favorite bond,10% named Moore and 5% named Lazenby.Craig and Connery were each named on 24% of the votes.Casino Royale was also named favorite film.
I not only base my opinion on the films but i have read almost all the books as well and the image of Bond given by the books,in my opinion anyway,is best served by Connery.

Then the site doesn't reflect a true demographic of Bond fans. If Roger Moore was not a fan favorite then why did he appear in so many of the films? Maybe because the films did well, if he was not well received then the films would have failed, but again he remained Bond for the longest time and appeared in 7 films, that doesn't happen by accident.

Well it is called the International James Bond Fan Club,so i assume it would be representative of the fans.Did you know that Moore was 46 when he did his first Bond and 58 when he did his last,he had gotten to old for his target audience, thats probably why box office was declining.Moonraker was the first Bond to do $200 million worldwide but the next 4 all declined sharply at the box office. It was not until Brosnan that Bond did $300 million for the first time and they topped that figure everytime out since, with Casino Royale almost making $600 million.
Moore is your favorite and i respect that,Connery is mine,so we are both right but by the time of A View to a Kill they had made a mockery of Bond.

If you really think about it, Moore did not play too many other characters on screen (other than Bond) outside James Bond role after he retired.

But Connery did and that might have hurt his image as Bond. He even play other roles than Bond between the Bond movies.

So Roger Moore is more associated with the Bond role than Connery

Possible, but to many people Moore is associated to an even greater degree to his role as Simon Templar in The Saint and as Lord Brett Sinclair in The Persuaders with Tony Curtis.I know myself if someone mentions Sir Rogers name the first thing that comes to mind is the Saint not Bond, but thats just me i grew up watching the Saint.

A really good film that Moore did just before taking on Bond was called THE MAN WHO HAUNTED HIMSELF...I must-see recommendation.

Of course The Saint is just awesome too, but this little thriller gem is a nice one to track down.
