Guess who I caught in concert tonight?

Of course, our city has a 4th of July fair and at the event is usually some free concerts and a spectacular fireworks display. Imagine my surprise that on the 4th was going to be Cyndi Lauper. I didn't even know she still sang or toured. I haven't really heard anything about her since the 80's. Things worked out for me to be able to go see the fireworks this year, so I went early enough to catch Cyndi's show. The show was great. She can still sing. She re-worked a couple of her songs, giving them a little different spin. She interacted with people in the audience and the audience as a whole, you almost felt like you were at a small intimate show rather than a large outdoor event. She saved her 2 biggest hits for the encore and invited Kim Massey up to sing with her. They actually did 3 songs which included Girsl Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time. I'm not sure how well known this talented singer is. Kim is from StL and sang earlier in the day. After the first song Cyndi pulled off a wig and revealed her real hair which is now purple. I didn't know what to expect but really had a good time at the show.

It's interesting to see bands for the first time if they live up to your expectations or not. Cheap Trick was at one of these shows several years ago and I came away with a feeling that I probably wouldn't go out of my way to see them again. They played their hits but there just wasn't anything more than that. I remember seeing Loverboy at a county fair and having a great time. You would have thought these guys were playing for a sold out stadium. I mean you could just tell they were having a good time and playing for all they were worth. Foreigner touring with Journey a few years back impressed me. They had that 70's energy, one of the main guys brought his doctor out on stage to introduce him because he had recently saved his life by performing a brain surgery, they also re-worked a song which I liked better than the original version.

I guess this is almost a dual thread but I ain't changing it now.

    Sounds like.....

.....you had a great time. Hope the head is not too sore this morning.
I once stumbled into a gig by "Squeeze" at a small fair. They never really did it for me on record, but that night the concert was great and sent my feet tapping.

    Peace

That sounds like a fun evening. My brother (no, not that one, the other one) saw Cyndi Lauper at a casino a couple of years ago and said that she puts on a great show.

I love those kinds of outdoor events. July 1st was Canada Day and we went to a celebration that was held in a large park to see a bunch of the folks from the Rock Star shows perform. For those familiar with the show, the performers were Suzie MacNiel, Ty Taylor, Storm Large, Dilana, and Marty Casey. It's not a show that I would have paid to see, but it was a fun event for free. 54-40 was the headliner, but it was damn cold for July so we decided to pass on their show.

Next weekend (July 13 - 15) is RibFest at our local fairgrounds! Kim Mitchell is playing on Friday night and David Wilcox is on Saturday. We'll probably go see both.

Cole in July? You guys got room for an American up there. Man, I can't stand humidity and mix that with a 85 to 90 degrees and we are talking misery.

That's the summer weather that we're used to here...hot and humid. But it's been unseasonably cool this past week. Its a nice energy saver since we don't need our air conditioner on...but summer here is so short that I feel ripped off it's not hot.

We have lots of room for you here. C'mon up and I'll buy you a nice cold beer.

Is At Last a new one. She did play a couple songs she said was new and I planned on trying to see if she had a new album out. The new songs were decent. It seems like radio is not friendly to artists who try to make a come back.

Is that your yearbook picture from this year? Cute!

No Mysery disk yet. Between the holiday here on Monday and the holiday there yesterday, I figure it's slowed down at least another day.
