Sony Reciever + Crown Amp...will it work

I was thinkin about getting this Sony Reciever:

But i don't know how to wire the amp. Does anyone know if this will even work. I just want something loudd.

First, Welcome to AR. Your receiver choice is sound, and Yes, the combo will work,
However, There are simpler (And cheaper) ways to go. Using a Pro Amp at home has
special considerations, In the ad, you see XLR inputs. Well pre-amps for home use
have RCA plugs. The amp has Balanced inputs, Your Receiver pre-amp is unbalanced.
You can buy an interconnect that is rca on one end to xlr on the other, to make the
connection. Pro amps are noisy due to there fans, also there can be hum issues. There
are ways around that. On the plus side, Pro amps supply huge amounts of power for
hundreds (even thousands) less than a high end "Home power amp", They run forever,
As there meant to be abused on the road. There are alot of used home audio 200wpc Amps
out there, that will be pretty much, Plug and play, But if you want to do it, Go for

That receiver has no pre-outs. How you gonna hook up an external amp (the Crown) to it? I think you're SOL.

Blue Meanie is right, this combo won't work at all. If you want loud, that depends more on the speakers than it does the amp. What speakers are you using?

I found a Cerwin-Vegas but it was $750 for a the sub woofer. Where and how much do those babies cost. I don't mind the sound quality being perfect but I don't want it to sound like a old radio. I'm planning on running my laptop to it which uses a 3.5mm jack but can easily be converted to RCA or 1/4 jack.

Look for a NAD 1600/1700 tuner/preamp or an Adcom 400 - 400 series tuner/preamp. You may pay a few pennies more but youll get much better quality.

This guy's a bit on the high side. I paid less for my 1600 nine years ago. They should be in the $125 -$150 range nowadays

Yeah see, i'm a newbie, i don't even know what a pre-out is. I'm just getting into the whole amplifier thing, i've always used receivers and just some crap ass speakers lying around to crank music and its always gotten loud enough but now i got bigger space and I might bring it to party so id like it to be louder. If you guys just want to give me a system you would do for $500-$1000 that'd be awesome. Thank you guys so much i'm glad i asked before i bought this stuff.

Well, I don't know JACK about new(er) Cerwin-Vega speakers. But the older ones (such as my DX9s) are known more for their efficiency/loudness, than sound quality. They aren't a BAD speaker, but they are meant more for partying/loud rock, as opposed to hyper-critical serious listening sessions. Pairs of older C-Vs can be found on ebay for anywhere between 50 bucks a pair, to a couple hundred a pair, depending on size and popularity. If you want something relatively large (15" three-ways), the D-9s, or AT-15s would be a good choice. Shipping these can be a real bear though, and costly, due to size and weight. You might be better off searching your local Craigslist (if you have one), to avoid shipping costs/hassles. Older models by Klipsch would also be a good choice, but probably a bit pricier than most C-Vs.
You can get much more bang for the buck by going the used route instead of new.

I agree with markw in suggesting NAD or Adcom components. I have had great luck with NAD stuff personally, but there are some folks have had problems with specific models. I've never owned any Adcom stuff, but have 3 or 4 friends that have had fantastic luck with their Adcom stuff, and it seems pretty much bullet-proof. Both NAD and Adcom offer good sound quality at an affordable price.

If you are looking for a relatively 'portable' system to transport to parties, my suggestion of C-V D-9s or AT-15s may not fit the bill. I'm only guessing, but those speakers weigh in at about 70 pounds (each) or so. But C-V made smaller models in the 'D' and 'AT' lines, sacrificing a little bass, but still being extremely efficient and capable of being played loud.

This system should ROCK!
If you need more POWER, receiver has pre-outs to add amp. But it should maintain enough current and JBL is efficient and know to be a DANCE CLUB speaker!

you know, he plans to get the behringer ACTIVE speakers, no need for a seperate amp, just a preamp/mixer (for the PA dudes)

but I seriously recommend you to listen to some speakers first, before you buy, you know, 'loud' is just loud, it's the 'good' part that bothers people.
and btw, please don't buy the cheap sony thing...

if you want loud speakers, buy a pair of cerwin vegas. you do need a receiver/integrated/seperates here, but those are no problem.

Blew the speakers within 5 minutes. The sub woofer is awesome though, I bought some Insignia speakers for them at Bestbuy for $20 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1118843685964
Its amazingly loud and awesome for the price, but i'm looking at getting a way better system. I was looking at getting some JBL or C-V speakers on ebay. For the receiver/amp im not sure what to do yet. I'll probably get a powerful receiver and eventually hook a amp to it. Honestly though if you guys need something to throw around like crazy that Logitech/Insigna hookup is amazing for the money, I use it for video games and music, and when you pump it walls shake.

I'm assuming that 2 channel audio is your concern so I recommend this Insignia reciever from Bestbuy.

It has 2 stereo pre-outs so you can run that to your amp. You will still need the Radioshack adaptor for RCA to 1/4" to run signal to your amp. The reciever is currently backordered but be patient.

I have 8 of them and other than the fan noise it is just fine for everything I use them for whether it be movies, music, or video games in a 7.1 setup with lots of speakers. For about $300 it can't be beat.
