Talking Man,oh man, summer's lookin' good!!!

First Rush (Sept 18 is, technically, still summer) and now...5th row centre for Dream Theater!

To avoid any comments from the Peanut Gallery (aka Swish) I'll refrain from saying how much I paid. Other than to say that it was less expensive than Rush.

    AWESOME!
Seeing two of the best bands still going today in one summer...it just don't get better than that!

I dont' think I'm gonna be able to catch either of them this time around.
I'll have to see where work takes me and cross my fingers, might have to make a trip to Boston or Toronto to see Dream Theater, it's been a few years since I've seen them.

Our small-town, non-profit, volunteer run, local Blues Festival just landed Gov't Mule for September though...That'll be another band to check off the "see before I die" list. I'll be working security that night...free pass...woooooo!

I'm also seeing Porcupine Tree in a couple of weeks! Life is good.

If you make your way to Toronto for DT, let me know and I'll buy you a beer.

Porky Tree's playing here the night after tomorrow...but I have a previous commitment. Ah well, if I wanna see PT live in Chicago, I can always play the DVD.

Actually, my big summer plan is Lollapalooza in August. My brother and nephew are coming to town for it, should be a great time. I'm not wild about the headliners, but the secondary acts are a pretty interesting mix (My Morning Jacket, Spoon, Cold War Kids, Clap Yer Hands, LCD Soundsystem, et al.).

    Anyone else planning on going?

    wow

    Good Summer indeed.
I scored 2nd row, center seats for the DT show in Chicago on August 10th........even thought I am incredibly pumped for that, I have 10 days in the condo planned for Ft. Walton beach coming in 2 weeks..........I'm taking 6 books to read and that might not be enough..........I love to sit on the high-rise balcony, listening to the blue-green ocean, while reading.
Quiet, white-sand beach, rum drinks, sweet, fresh shrimp & grouper......10 days !

That sounds like heaven! What books are you planning on reading? I have a stack of summer reading piling up on my bookshelf too.

BTW. I'm hoping to add Crowded House to my summer tour. I'm just waiting for them to announce the ticket info.

2007 is turning into a great year. In 2006 I bought only a handfull of new CDs and only saw one or two concerts, and I think that those were Casino freebies. This year, I've bought a ton of new stuff already and am up to four concerts...five if I can score CH tickets.

    ================================

I have one covering the Mayan culture -- another that is a diary of every single studio recording date and log of the entire work of the BEATLES (should be cool) -- also, the Stephen Hawking book, "A Brief History of Time"...........the other I don't recall.......I just throw them in a pile until I go to Florida.

My apologies to the other posters -- no hijack intended.

    FA.........check your e-mail !

I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

Where at? I've read that the Toronto show is sold out! That's a fairly good-sized venue isn't it?

WOW! I just went into Ticketmaster and it looks like the show is, indeed, sold out. Holy Crap! I wasn't expecting that.

The show is at The Danforth Music Hall and according to their web site, it holds 1,150. Maybe next tour they'll move into Massey Hall, my favourite venue in the city (for sound) which seats about 2,700.

It's interesting to watch how their fan base is growing without any mainstream radio play or support. The first time I saw PT was just after In Absentia came out and there couldn't have been more than 200 people in the club. The second time was also in support of In Absentia and they were touring with Opeth. At the same Danforth Music Hall, not sold out, and I'd say half the people were there to see Opeth. Only a few years later, no major support, they're selling the place out on their own.

Maybe things are looking up for PT after all. Of course, if they do get popular, it'll be cuz they sold out...buncha posers...

The Seattle show, and the Portland show, were sold out as well (last week).
