Can sub power down with receiver?

I have a Yamaha RX-V559 receiver with Polk surround sound speakers. The sub does have a standby mode but it won't power up or down with the receiver. I want to do this because I keep getting a hum from the sub when it's on (but that's another story). Any Yamaha receiver experts out there who know how to set up the receiver to send a signal to the sub to power it on and off?

Most subs go into standby when there is no signal..my guess is the hum you're hearing (probably coming from the receiver) is strong enough to not let it go into standby mode. Try to get rid of the hum and you will probable fix the standby problem.

    Hope this helps.

PS; Disconnect the subs RCA connector at the sub and see if it goes into standby
