    Can you guess this Phase Linear gear? Is it worth 1K?

    A guy is selling this Phase Linear gear and I was wondering if its work 1k? Not that I can afford or anything but I heard Phase Linear is an great US manufacture that went out of business. Pics attached.

    Vintage Phase Linear equipment doesn't enjoy the demand the prices of the likes of Pioneer, Sansui, or Luxman let alone McIntosh or Marantz. Part of this is that that PL never had all that good a reputation either for sound or build quality. I don't recongnize all these components, however they are late-model Phase Linear. The most valuable is likely the tuner that might fetch $200 or a bt more by itself, since vintage analog tuners are relatively desired.

    Other than the tuner there appears to be a five-band equalizer, two preamps, and a relatively low-powered power amp. The equalizer might be worrth $100, the other components would be under or around $200. So a total of $1000 is optimistic for the separate pieces. Two caveats however:
    • However if all components are working well, and if the cosmetic condition is excellent, they might actually be worth more as a set than individually to collector;
    • I don't recognize the specific models, so there is a small chance that this or that one is worth significantly more than my guesses for some reason, provided it is in excellent condition.
    Are you a collector or do you just want to use the stuff? If the latter, I would say your $1000 could be better spent. A nice higher-powered Marantz, Sansui, Pioneer, or McIntosh receiver of the same vintage, i.e. late '70s, would cost less, likely give better sound, and be of more certain resale value.

    If it is worth that kind of money to you, then go ahead and jump. Phase has its fans and they are usually pretty dedicated.

    Personally, I would not pay a thousand bucks for that if it were new. Never been much of a Bob Carver fan.

    I am looking to listen to any gear that I buy. Not a collector and I am always broke. I was curious about this set though because it looked cool and was made by US manufacture. Hard to find these days. I will spend any money on better equipment rather than going for the set.

    Thanks,
    Steve
