Post WebSites to buy cheap SACD(s)

Hi, I just purchased a entry level SACD player and now I want to know the secret for buying these expensive SACDs.

Besides ebay and amazon where are your favorite websites for SACDs?

Here is a nice libray of SACDs and reviews on them.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Believe it or not: Borders -- you use their 20% coupons combined with personal shopping days, and voila -- 30% off. This will only work if you buy one at a time, if you want to buy small handfuls, well...you're on your own (although their 4/3 sale might still be going on).

And yes, Amazon often puts up lots of recent releases on sale, so keep an eye on that.

Actually, I find my best deals for Jazz and Classical on ebay usually. For rock or new forms of music, it's a crapshoot. Amazon and Borders are good, ebay can be good here too. For about 7 minutes of online shopping you can save a few bucks though.

It's a club of course, and they only have a limited selection. BUT if you know how to work the club you can get all of their SACD's for around $5 each. They have all the Claptons, Elton Johns, Bob Dylans, lots of classical stuff, and a few others. Do a search by album title and just enter SACD in the search box. If you want the above mentioned SACD's, that's the way to go for them.

    pricegrabber.com

if you see a title on sacd that you like, try searching it on pricegrabber with sacd in the title line. sometimes these things will be there.

elusive disc, acoustic sounds, and music direct all will send you frequent emails with choices. they also have sacd only lists.

Yeah, that's pretty much the SACD problem in a nutshell -- no catalog to speak of. Remember that Borders only carries a small fraction of what is out there. So: a small fraction of a small fraction is like 2, Pink Floyd and something else, very lame. You're pretty much SOL unless you want classical.

They only have 5 titles that can be bought as part of their 12 for 1 introductory offer. Everything else (about 50 titles?) is "members only." I doubt that in the end I'd be able to "work the club" and get all my SACDs for $5.

That's what's always been the problem with SACD - it was too expensive: it required $ for the setup, the player, and the disks. If Sony & the SACD producers had had any smarts (five years ago), they would have made the whole experience a little more affordable. I understand that new titles should have a premium, but how many SACDs were new releases in the first place? Aside from new recordings of classical works, almost every SACD was something that I had the record, the tape and the CD of, already (not to mention my misguided foray into HDCDs). If you ask me, Sony did an excellent job of ripping off the consumers with this technology. I for one, am sick & tired of paying again for music I already own, even if it is a little higher quality than the previous medium it came on.

Now I'm not an SACD nay-sayer - I have quite a collection - but I don't really want to think about what I spent to get it. And I'm still tweaking things, replacing components, and comparing with ordinary CDs on a regular basis. It's one of those hobbies that just keeps on costing more money.....

Nice links, but it would help if these sites would let one sort by price. Almost every other site that sells electronics will allow this. I guess they know that SACDs rarely sell for a reasonable price. I guess Pricegrabber is the best option....

    part of why sacd failed`

is that people didnt perceive the additional value to the product and werent willing to pay a bit more or even list price for it. i felt it was certainly worth more and would pay up to what i felt may have been list for a regular cd (which id will RARELY pay).

we needed to encuourage them to continue to provide us with the higher rez format. complicating matters was the dvda but as you can see, that is all but gone.

fortunately, sacd remains, if only as a niche format. i never figured to replace all my rbcd nor vinyl with sacd. that would be expensive and nearly impossible. in fact, i prefer to get native dsd recordings if possible; unfortunately, not as many as i wish are out there.

the players have been affordable, my sony ns500v ferinstance and now the oppos. i may have to spring $150 for one for various reasons.

i just accept the fact that most music wont be on sacd, at least the sacdp can play rbcd, sometimes with superior sound to regular players.

for sure there is not enough on sacd, but what is out seems to be good (at least what I have purchsed)...
I have a marantz all in one player, so there are way better sacd players out there, but this marantz sounds very good...

btw, I have found ebay has good sacd prices... (I've gotten a couple for <$5 shipped)
