What is your budget? Like many manufacturers of quality receivers, Denon offers a number of models at different price points.

Lots of excellent units in that price range. You may have to decide based on your needs and ease of use. You should also be able to find some units with HDMI for well below that price. The Pioneer 1016 for example. Although you are not using HDMI now, you may in the future.

Go for the Denon AVR-3806, its much better than the 2806. Its uses high end electronics compared th the 2806 and lower models. Power supplies, transformers ect. are much better quality once you step up to this receiver which is audiophile quality in my book for whatever thats worth. I've just recently seen it advertised for $792 well below list price at www2.butterflyphoto.com/shop/home.aspx

That's a great price for the 3806, blackraven. A solid deal, without question.

My only hang-up with Denon AVR's is when you connect them to a lot of speakers that are hard to drive. I'm a Denon proponent (check my gear), but I'll be the first to admit my 3803 couldn't push my B&W's with authority. Oh, for HT it's fine, but for critical listening with music, the impendence swings seemed to suck the life out of the poor avr. That said, the CDMNT's were notorious for their fickleness with amps and your speaks may not present the same challenges to the admittedly newer 3806.

    Just food for thought.

The 3806 uses similar components of the 4000 series and its rated very high. I listened to it driving a set of magnepan mg 12's and it had no problems. The power supplies and transformers are beefier in the 3806.

He was only trying to expand your limited option. Chances are L.J. has ALOT more experience with audio than you. So you might want to at least consider it. Why are you limiting your selection to Denon products only?

    Well excuuuse me!

I was giving you an example with the Pioneer. My point was that although you are out to get a Denon unit, there are plenty of AVR's well below your price range worth taking a look at. I own plenty of Denon products but I explored all options before making a purchase.

I buy products that fit my needs. I would not buy a $700 unit if a well made $400 fit my needs. To each his own. Enjoy your Denon.

...Why Denon and not (in no particular order) Pioneer, or Yamaha, or Onkyo, or Marantz, or Harman Kardon? I mean it's only HT right?...I mean it's not like you are critically listening to music...all those laser-totin' mechanical lizards will be well served by any of the mid-fi brands named...

Is it price? Is it cachet? Is it product availability? Is it styling or features? Previous experience? There must be some reason you come here asking a question (which BTW only you can really answer based on those aforementioned reasons) and then get all snippy as though those who are trying to help you are at your beck and call...

Shame on you. Someone takes the time to try to help you and this is what they get back. Good luck with your search. No help from me will be given.

He was simply trying to help by offering equivalent (or, some would say superior) alternatives and you bite his head off. ...not a smart move.

As you might have noticed, this it NOT the way to make friends here.

Good luck on your search. Somehow, methinks you've received all the help you're gonna get here.
