    Cal Labs ???

    Hi there,

Was wondering if anyone knew of whatever became of California Audio Labs?
I was looking for a high quality CD/DVd transport(yeah I know - doesn't exist) and immediately thought of this vendor. They seem to have vanished.

Anyone have any details on this comapny.

Went belly up last year. No idea if any product support exists. They had the problem of making decent quality gear, yet not charging the ridiculous high end prices that some of their competitors do. But, that's kind of an issue that runs through audio in general -- the perception that if a product is reasonably priced, then it must be inferior to something that costs a lot more.

P.S. Most high end CD and DVD players use third party transports, so really what you're paying for is typically a better isolated case, redundant power supplies, and better output circuitry.
