    Dual Purposes

    Greetings,

I have a dual-part question. Please bare with me.

We are working with client one - money flows off her - and she adores music! But she simply abhors the idea of large speaker-boxes in her rooms. Zo, we are contemplating specifying B & W in-ceiling speakers. What have you experiences with these? This is new-construction so we are open to everything.

Second, we have a client with quite modest finances. He is OK with Infinity 1100 tiny-speakers but can do opties??? What have you experiences or sugesties with these? This is renovation so we are quite limited, OK?

    Thank You so much.

Look at my buddys in Holland, www.wenwaudio.nl since US prices are waaay cheaper then the prices in Holland and Germany. I usually buy and import from the US, but this only is an advantage with speakers over ten thousand since shipping and tax is too much for a lower priced products in relation.
Lots of music but not enough time for it all

What's the purpose of this system? general background music or is it for stereo listening or home theater? If it's not just background music IMO I'd stay away from in ceiling speakers.

yeah, for serious listening, stay away from ceiling,
but, b&w also makes in wall speakers, if those are alright to your client, then that's a better way to go, looking at the b&w website they have some pretty nice in walls,
    like this one
    http://www.bwspeakers.com/index.cfm/...l%20CWM%208180

these come at €2300 a pair or so (prijzen in Nederland en België)
there are cheaper ones too, check out their site.
there is one better, but it probably will take up the entire wall in heigth, which isn't the thing you want i think. you can't mount it without a box too i think.

but still, for serious listening, i really suggest real speakers, at least bookshelves, maybe your client is from the idea that speakers are big ugly looking things.fortunelaty, this isn't the case, far from, there are alot of nice looking speakers out there, there must be one that she likes.

no idea on your other client though.

    Greetings and good luck,
    Bert.

Axiom also sells some "on wall" speakers which are partial in-wall. Not sure if they have completely in-wall speakers but I thought I had read they are generally better than most in-walls.

Definitely steer clear of in ceiling speakers IMO for client #1. If the client has the kind of dough you are talking about you probably could get away from B&W too. If space is such a major issue, I suppose in-walls (but not the ceiling) might be an option. Legacy Audio has some decent in-walls that might be a good fit here (they are pricey, but it sounds like that is not an issue). In-walls are never my type of speaker of choice, but for this purpose they might be what you client is looking for without completely throwing out fidelity.

No suggestions for client #2... What are "opties?" Never heard of them...

    Thank You!

    Greetings,

Thank you all for your comments.

On client one, I believe we shall look at in-wall speakers. Try as I could, she would not accept the "big ugly boxes" concept, even after looking upon a variety of quite attractive systems. Her goal is to have back-ground music in each major room with the ability to sit and listen to quality in one (but no boxes!). We are preplexed but shall continue; time is not a problem as we are still in schematic design.

On client two, we used the tiny Infinity speakers and he is quite happy with the system.

And, thank you for the tip to W + W.

She can't have her cake and eat it too, I've never heard an in wall system that sounded as good as comparably priced "box" speakers.

Thanks for clearing that up as I thought it may have been some kind of new speaker type or manufacturer. Just for the record, I was not playing English spelling policeman -- I just had absolutely no idea what the word was.
