Smile Best artwork/photo album cover on LPs.

Art work and photo were more prominent on an LP than CD since LP cover is much larger (a square foot). Although Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is probably most recognizable art cover, here are few more.

    Stevie Wonder:Innervision

    Rolling Stone:Beggars Banquet

    Billy Joel:The Stranger

    Television:Marquee Moon

    Beatles:Abbey Road

    Led Zepplin:Led Zepplin

    The Who:Who's Next

Why do you like those? That Billy Joel one, in particular, doesn't exactly speak for itself...

I guess I could say that they are most recognizable (at least to me). Front cover Image very much create the atmosphere for music to follow.

Back in the LP hay days, there was always a section in the record stores that offered variety of LP at bargain price ($1.99-3.99), and were stacked randomly behind each other. So the fastest way to go thru them-to see if any of them were good-was by image on the cover. The good ones always stood out
