    New site

Just came across a new site for us analogue people. Run by Teresa and a fine job she made of it. Worth checking out.

    Thanks Bernd,

I would love to read analog equipment reviews on that site. But LP/R2R/Cassette reviews are nice touch.

    Long Live Vinyl to all.

Yes thanks Bernd. I like her ideas about categorizing classical music.

    they're right.

The History of the De-Evolution of Sound Quality

    1. From Tubes to Solid State.
    2. From 2 Track to 4 Track reel to reel
    3. From real time duplication to high-speed duplication of Reel to Reels.
    4. From RCA Living Stereo to RCA Dynagroove LPs.
    5. From Virgin Vinyl to recycled Vinyl.
    6. From Analog mastered LPs to Digitally mastered LPs
    7. From Analog recorded LPs to Digitally recorded LPs
    8. From LPs to CDs.

although the 'from lp to cd's' one can be a very personal choice

I believe not all of these are appropriate de-evolutions except maybe 3., which is not a problem anymore 5 definately.

    1. Is a matter of choice and taste (tubes do not sound good in my system nor to my ears)
    2. It strongly depends on the width of the tracks and if good noise reduction is used.
6/7/8. Depends highly on how well they are recorded and mastered. CD is not necessarily below the LP in quality. I have heard quality go both directions.

i know, that's why i said that 'the last one can be a very personal choice', with this i also ment (ok, i did say it a little confusing) that there are very good records and there are also very bad records (quality), the same for cd's, I can seriously hear a quality difference between the 1974 album from dave brubeck (which sounds suprisingly good for it's age) and my new record from the egg (dance) (which i can hear degrading in quality every few times i play it)
